What do I do after a car accident?
Our detailed advice for what to do after a car accident is here. You should call 911 to alert the police or medical help if necessary, gather any information about the accident, call your insurance company, and then call us at Star for roadside assistance. While you wait for your tow truck to arrive, you should gather your belongings and let your loved ones know what happened.

Where are you located?
Star Collision Auto Body Repair is located at 1560 Plainfield Ave NE in Grand Rapids. Star of Rockford Auto Body Repair is located at 260 Northland Drive in Rockford.

Do I need an appointment to get an estimate?
No appointment is necessary.  However, you may call and make an appointment to avoid the possibility of waiting.  An estimator is here Monday through Friday from 7:30am - 5:30pm.

Can you give me a quote over the phone?
We can initiate an estimate and schedule an appointment through our website or by phone.  Click request a quote, then enter the required vehicle and contact information.  We’ll get back to you that day.

What do I need to bring to have an estimate done?
We only need you and your car to do an estimate.  If the repairs will be covered by an insurance carrier and you have a claim number from your insurance company, please bring that too.

How long will it take to get an estimate?
On average you can get an estimate in 15 minutes.

Do I need to get more than one estimate?
You need to choose the shop you want and then notify your insurance company. You can get another estimate if you like, but you do not need to, and your insurance company can’t require more than one. Some insurance companies do require an independent appraiser or adjuster to estimate damages in order to start the repair process. It’s always good to consult with your insurance company after an accident occurs and ask them any questions you have then.

Do you work with all insurance companies?
Yes, all we need is a claim number from you and we’ll take it from there.  We work with your insurance company so you can get on with daily living.

If I have an accident, do I have to use a repair facility that my insurance company suggests?
No, you have the right to choose the body shop that’s right for you.  It is illegal for insurance companies to steer customers to shops other than their choice.

Don’t let your insurance company use these known scare tactics when filing a claim:

  • The shop you chose is not on our list.
  • The shop you chose is not a preferred provider.
  • We can’t guarantee the repairs if repaired at the shop you chose.
  • Your repairs could be delayed if you don’t use a shop on our list.
  • You may be responsible for additional costs with your shop of choice.

Will my new car warranty be voided if I take my car to an independent body shop?
No. You are protected by law from this happening. Certain portions of your vehicle may fall under the independent body shop’s warranty after the repair, but the dealer cannot void your entire warranty just because they did not perform the repair work on your car.

What should I do if I’m not sure my car is safe to drive after the accident?
If you’re not sure it’s safe, don’t drive it. Have it towed to our shop or to your home if you haven’t decided yet where you want to take it. Any additional damage caused by driving your car after an accident is not usually covered as part of the original loss.

Will I have to pay to have my car towed to your shop?
When it’s necessary due to an accident, the cost of towing is usually covered as part of the loss if going through an insurance carrier. We will include this expense in the estimate that we submit to your insurance company.

Does having a bent frame mean that my car can’t be fixed?
No. Frame damage is common. With today’s technology our technicians can fix a damaged frame or replace it if it’s beyond repair threshold.

What if you find additional damage during the repair process that was not on the original estimate?
This is very common. If we find additional damage, we will contact your insurance company and obtain authorization to pay for all supplemental damages.

Who guarantees the work done to my car?
Star Collision and Star of Rockford guarantee our workmanship for as long as you own your vehicle, and we work hard to make sure that work is done well and you’re satisfied with the repairs.

What is the difference between OEM parts and aftermarket replacement parts?
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) car parts are ones that the manufacturer used to build your car when it was originally assembled. Aftermarket parts are ones made by independent car part manufacturers. Insurance companies will often prefer or even require that the body shop use aftermarket parts because it will cost less money to fix, but this is not always the best choice for the car or the owner. If you have questions about what your car insurance policy mandates, contact your insurance company.

Can you match my car’s paint color?
Yes. We take pride in being able to match factory finishes. Star’s technicians mix our paint colors on site and use PPG color management to ensure that each vehicle’s paint matches.

How long will the repairs take?
Every vehicle and repair is different. After we inspect your car, we will give you an estimate of the time necessary to complete the repair.

Do you have loaner cars?
Yes, we have loaner cars that can be scheduled for use while your car is being repaired. We also offer low-cost rental cars for immediate use.  We will make the rental car reservation for you.

When is my deductible due?
Your deductible is due when your repairs are completed.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept properly signed insurance checks, cash, certified checks, American Express, Discover, Visa, and MasterCard.
